Physical & Sexual Abuse Recovery Program

Compassionate Support for Healing and Hope

    Understanding the Impact

Experiencing physical or sexual abuse leaves lasting scars—not only on the body, but also on the heart and mind. Survivors may struggle with fear, shame, anxiety, depression, or difficulty trusting others. These challenges can affect daily life, relationships, and self-worth, often long after the abuse has ended.

At Journey For Tomorrow, Inc., we believe that healing is possible. No one should have to carry the weight of abuse alone.

Common Reactions and Behaviors of Survivors

Survivors of abuse may respond in many different ways, and no two journeys look the same. Some common behaviors and struggles can include:

    • Withdrawal from friends, family, or activities once enjoyed

    • Difficulty trusting others or forming new relationships

    • Heightened fear, anxiety, or hypervigilance

    • Feelings of shame, guilt, or self-blame

    • Emotional outbursts, irritability, or anger

    • Use of substances or risky behaviors to cope with pain

    • Trouble concentrating, disrupted sleep, or nightmares

    • Avoidance of situations, people, or reminders of trauma

These are natural responses to trauma—not personal failings. With the right support, survivors can learn healthy coping strategies, rebuild confidence, and move forward with strength and hope.

    Supporting Families

Abuse doesn’t just affect survivors—it can also impact their loved ones. We provide education, counseling, and resources for family members to help them understand trauma, provide support, and foster healing within the home.
